I’m only starting to realise the potential of the Nokia 770! Things seem to accelerate in the mobile web space. I stumbled upon the following at Geekzone : a solution to remotely access all files on your desktop computer from your Nokia 770. Imagine this : you’re at Starbucks and you have an urgent desire to listen to one of your old CDs you haven’t listened to for a long time. Or you want to show your friend the pictures of that long ago holiday. No problem : Avvenu comes to your rescue. Simply point your browser to the Avvenu website and log in (sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, I am still looking for a screen capture app for 770):

and you’re presented with a screen of your desktop:

choose a picture:

view a picture:

Or search for a file using Google desktop search:

There are plenty of remote access programs around. But the power, simplicity and userfriendliness of Avvenu combined with the browser experience of the Nokia 770 makes this a very compelling proposition.
Overview of some of the features:
- viewing / downloading of files
- pictures are rescaled for viewing on smaller displays
- using Google desktop search on your computer
- uploading
- sharing (giving access to other users)
- Google desktop search
An extensive user manual is availbale on the website.
I’m still looking for a local solution for home use : I do not want to consume my valuable broadband capacity while at home ( I start struggling to stay within my monthly 10 Gigabyte allowance and the advent of the Nokia 770 won’t make things better!).
One way to look at this software is as creating a kind of virtual hosting space for your entire desktop!

I am sitting in america waiting for one of these. what sold me was the possibility of putting orb on my home PC. orb sends files and media over the web also. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/04/AR2005050401834.html?referrer=email or www.orb.com . check it out and let us know if it works.
hope u enjoy ur device, and i hope i can one day enjoy one too.

Hi
I have not yet recieved my 770 but surely once on the net you can use the normal unix/X utilities. ‘rlogin -l ‘ from a 770 terminal should allow you to log onto the remote server. ‘xhost + name’ on the 770 and then ‘export DISPLAY=:0 && &’ on the remote login should locally display the window from the remote server. Also surely utilities like rsync, rcp etc should be available.

www.ifunpix.com is another new tool offering remote-access and mobile phone access.
As opposed to Orb and Avvenu the media managment, sharing and social network is much more advanced. the music interface is cool, slide show is cool etc.
